Douglas Fir Lumber
Douglas Fir generally has a straight and slightly wavy grain with medium course texture. Its color is typically a light to medium brown with a red tint. Fir is used mostly in plywood and construction material, it would be acceptable for outdoor use, but may attract insects more than other woods. Fir is sold as a C-Select grade, meaning clear and no knots. It is also often “scant sawn”, meaning the size is actually less than the described size (i.e., 8/4 x 6”is actually 1-7/8” x 7-3/4”).
