Additional Details

White oak's natural water resistance comes from microscopic structures called tyloses, which effectively seal the wood's cells. These tyloses, which are also found in white oak’s cousin red oak, contribute to its unique grain pattern. White oak also showcases prominent medullary rays, which create an eye-catching "ray fleck" pattern that is particularly noticeable on quartersawn white oak boards.
