Soft Maple Wormy Lumber

Rough lumber

Also known as ambrosia maple, wormy maple is typically of a soft maple species. The ambrosia beetle burrows its way into the tree, leaving behind a hole and a trail of fungus which discolours the wood. Wormy maple may be used in most woodworking applications, but is most commonly seen in furniture. Typically wormy maple is in a 1 Common & Better grade, allowing for knots and cracks, and may be as narrow as 3.5” wide, but the worm holes and streaks are not considered a defect when grading.
