Soft Maple Lumber
The term “soft” is only used to differ from hard maple, not that it is a softwood. Soft maple is a great option that may be used in most woodworking applications. Sapwood will be greyish white in colour and the heartwood tends to be darker. Grades for Soft Maple include Select & Better (minimal knots, mainly sapwood on the face, 4” wide and wider), Select (few knots and narrow width of 3.5” to 5”), and 1 Common (allows for more knots and cracks and more heartwood on the face).
