Soft Maple Curly Lumber

Rough Lumber

Also known as Tiger Maple, curly maple is found primarily in soft maple species. Waves going across the grain create the unique “curl”.  While it is not specified how a maple tree becomes curly, it does seem that growth conditions are a big factor. Growing on the side of a hill, strong wind conditions, stress on the trees, even the genetics of the tree may all have an effect to create the curl in the grain.  Curly maple grade only comes in 4/4 thickness and Select & Better grade (few knots and cracks, good color on the face, and 3.5” wide and wider).
