Calico Hickory Lumber
Hickory is a dense wood with a colour range of light to medium brown sapwood and a paler heartwood. The grain of hickory tends to be more straight but may at times be wavy. Hickory typically comes in a face and better grade (5.5” wide and wider, minimal knots, and minimal sapwood on the face). For a rustic look, some hickory boards may have nice contrasting sapwood and heartwood and is referred to as calico hickory. Hickory may be harder to work with due to its density, but is used heavily for tool handles, and is a great option for flooring and cabinetry as well.
