Sapwood is light yellow and heartwood is reddish-brown. Yellow Birch has a straight grain with a fine texture.
Machinability: When straight grained, it machines easily, but where there is curly or disturbed grain, tear-out can be experienced. Its’ uniform, dense surface accepts nails and screws well. Care must be given when staining – conditioning aids in a more even color. It polishes extremely well.
