Heartwood is dark brown with a medium texture. Black walnut is generally straight grained, but at times may be wavy or curly. The grading in walnut allows for more knots and typically there is some sapwood on each board.
Machinability: Machines easily with most tools. Holds nails and screws well, but must be pre-drilled. It is excellent for polishing.
