Sapwood is creamy white, tending to a light yellow-green with age. Heartwood varies from light yellow-brown to dark olive-green. It takes on a steel blue color if mineral stain is present. Yellow poplar has a fine texture with straight, uniform grain.
Machinability: Easily machined to a smooth finish with a variety of tools. Holds nails and screws well, but should be pre-drilled for best results. Good for staining or painting, and polishes well.
